Today, WIND Mobile launched in Barrie, Ontario with a celebration event at its Georgian Mall store and the presentation of the WINDthanks Community Grant Barrie.

The YMCA of Simcoe/Muskoka’s Youth Entrepreneurship program was the recipient of the WINDthanks Barrie grant. This program strives to inspire youths in the Barrie region to reach their full potential by offering a challenging 12-month business planning and mentorship experience that actively encourages young entrepreneurs to launch their own careers.  The program collaborates with a number of local business owners, volunteers and funders to fast track participants on their chosen path, while recognizing and alleviating the ever-growing issue of youth unemployment.

“There are a lot of worthy causes in Barrie, so we are honoured to be selected to receive this grant from WIND Mobile.” said Janette McGee, General Manager of Youth Services, YMCA, “We are very excited to be putting this grant towards the expansion of our Youth Entrepreneurship program. Today’s economic climate has seen rapid growth in youth unemployment levels and it is now essential to educate and empower youths to create their own success, so we can provide a stable future for young adults in our community.”

WIND’s CEO and Chairman, Anthony Lacavera, was on hand to answer questions and offer advice to the young entrepreneurs, while presenting the YMCA of Simcoe / Muskoka with the WINDthanks Barrie grant cheque.

“It was fantastic to be able to contribute to such a worthwhile cause as the YMCA Simcoe Muskoka’s Youth Entrepreneurship program” said Lacavera, during this morning’s Barrie launch. “It was fascinating to hear from these young entrepreneurs who have so many great ideas for the future and it is truly a privilege to be able to support this program.”

A further 20 new WIND customers walked away with a brand new LG Optimus 2X and a complimentary month of WIND Mobile service after joining the celebrations this morning.

WIND has been dedicated to network expansion and improvement and todays Barrie launch marks another milestone as WIND continues to grow to become Canada’s fourth national carrier. With over 430,000 customers across Canada, WIND Mobile is bringing change to the Canadian wireless industry by offering no hidden fees, no long distance charges and contract-free truly-unlimited plans.

Anthony Lacavera, CEO and Chairman of WIND Mobile presents young entrepreneurs, Joshua Coombs, Daniel Hotchkiss and Leah Dyck with $5000 for the YMCA of Simcoe / Muskoka.
